Alan Chen Stokes and Alex Chen Stokes, born in 1996 in China, are Internet celebrities famous for their YouTube and TikTok accounts with astronomical numbers of subscribers and followers. Through videos they had created on their own, the twins grew their following, eventually merging into a single account. Latest feat? Their YouTube channel is the 9th largest in the world in terms of views per episode. Unfortunately, however, the pair ran into legal issues in August 2020, in light of a prank video they had recorded a year prior. The video saw them dressed in all black, wearing masks and carrying duffle bags, in an attempt to imitate robbers, whereby they asked bystanders for clothing and transport aid. Following this, the Uber driver was held at gunpoint, and police were alerted. Although officers had allegedly given suggestions for the video, the brothers were still charged with false imprisonment. Thankfully, a plea bargain was reached, reducing the charge to 160 hours of community service and a year’s probation.

Despite controversy surrounding a “swatting” video they released in October 2019 and subsequent legal proceedings, their audience still continues to watch and appreciate their content.

In August 2020, the Stokes twins were charged with false imprisonment, related to a video they had recorded in October 2019 where they pretended to be robbers. Witnesses reportedly called the police in both pranks, and the twins also called the police in one instance, alerting them to the prank. Despite this, the twins were charged by police after the video was released. Their attorneys raised claims that the twins were not guilty of the charges as responding officers from the first prank reportedly gave suggestions for the video being filmed. On April 1st, 2021, the twins pleaded guilty in a plea bargain and were sentenced to 160 hours of community service and a year of probation. No comment has been made on whether or not the Stokes Twins are trans.
